Preparing for my five month trip is hard.
Thinking of what to wear… Harder
Thinking of what to wear and not being a skinny woman….Even Harder..
I am basically living on travelfashiongirl.com and trying to follow every piece of advice. My hope is to pack like Alex as she laid out in her blog post “The Ultimate Round the World Travel packing List”
My goal is to pack a carry on worth of clothes to accompany me around the world. I needed conservative but fashionable clothes for Southeast Asia and parts of West Africa, and warmer clothes for Mongolia, super fashionable and cute clothes for a week of clubbing in Spain, and then fashionable clothes for summer in South Africa and South America. The catch is I wanted to pack all of this into a carry on size bag and day bag.
Alex said it was possible so I want to achieve it.
The other catch is that I am in no way a skinny woman. I have curves (in the right places – at least I think so) and I have never done this before. I packed for a year in Istanbul once but I brought two suitcases and left with more clothes. So, you can imagine I don’t have much practice.
Also, I love to look good. The idea of have the same outfit everyday drives me a bit mad. I want to make sure I have something for every occasion, including nights out on the town.
So I conducted more research. I wanted fashionable and yet function clothes which is how I ended up learning about Anatomie. They sell travel pants for $225 dollars. Their travel pants are quick dry, travel friendly, light, and versatile. You can wear them for work and for fun.
So I bought them. I had reservations about them because all the models were skinny and by measurement’s sake an XL looked more like a 12-14 which could be a problem for me. After reading the Professional Hobo‘s review of the pants, I decided on the Kate Skinny Cargo pants (which Nora swore were better for curves than the Skyler Skinny Pants that Alex swore by).
They arrived almost a week later in a tiny bag. When you open them you can automatically understand why they were named number one. The material is soft but of value. It’s clearly quick dry and breathable. I can imagine wearing them anywhere on a hot day. I felt a bit skeptical about how it could keep me warm at night but these were good quality.
The issue came when I tried them on. They fit perfectly around my waist and even worked a bit with my butt but they really stretched around my thighs (pictures below). They are comfortable and versatile but they are definitely not for ladies with thick tights and a big butt. The look made it so it was tight on the top and baggy on the bottom.
For $225 dollars I was not feeling these pants. So for my not so curvy sistas out there – please check these pants out. For my curvier sistas —- we may have to sit these pants out until they design a pair for thick thighs and Anatome please do!
Ladies, do you have the solution for a great travel pants for curvy women?
Now I’m going to go and have a glass of wine with some toast and contemplate how to find versatile travel jeans for thick women like myself.
I’m extremely impressed with your writing skills as well
as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself?
Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare
to see a great blog like this one today.
It’s a paid theme
I have been searching and trying on pants left and right. I wanted a pant that I could go from a hike to a nice dinner at night. I have to travel a lot for my job, months at a time and want to only pack a carryon. The Prana Briann pant is the one for me.
Sweet! I’ll have to try it out. Lately I’ve just been wearing Old Navy jeans. LOL
I’ll check it out. Now I’m also just wear Old Navy’s pants And Fashion Nova’s high rise black jeggings. They are super comfy too and easy to move around in
I have personally tried a lot of Anatomie styles and I agree that they are mainly made with less curvy girls in mind. I’ve found a few used pairs online and found that I can go up a size for my butt and thighs and then have them tailored into the waist and around the lower leg a bit. BUT I would not pay for all that tailoring at full price.
I recently bought and wore Black jeggings from Macy’s and they were perfect for about 6 months. They did wear out soon but it got the job done.
Did you find any???? Looking for some fashionable but great for travel pants myself. Afraid to spend the money on these when I’ve got the same issues. Thanks!
Hi Lindsay,
Honestly I ended up just going with one pair of black Jeggings, my comfortable blue jeans, gray stretch pants and beige stretch pants. I bought REI travel pants but ended up wearing them once and sending them back home. I also bought a running skort for the desert and hiking and that was a lifesave at time. I read somewhere before traveling that the best option is to take what you would wear normally (with culture and weather in mind) and with that advice in mind I just packed what I needed. It was perfect and suited me well. I spent most of my time in cities with some trekking but it was not the main part of my travels. Good luck!
