Street Art in Lisbon – 2013

We spent a few days in Lisbon, Portugal and something that amazed me was the street art. Here’s are some of the photos of the amazing artwork.
Lisbon was full of artwork, great food, beautiful buildings, and friendly people. It had a grundy feel similar to the Mission district in San Francisco before the dot-com boom and Williamsburg in 2013.
Initially I came to Lisbon because a college friend of mine had spent 3 months there and raved about how amazing the food and people are. I booked a week there as an add on to a Christmas holiday with my husband’s family in Austria. We flew to Lisbon, stayed for one day, walked around, ate chicken, and then drove six hours to a ferry to go to Morocco. When we returned we had just a day an a half more.
Spending the last day and a half I just walked around and took a bus tour. I ate more chicken. I fell in love with the artwork. Then I regretted just spending two days in Lisbon and promised myself I’d return. That was 2013.

On every block, around every turn, was artwork. It gives Lisbon a unique feel. One of organized chaos and freedom.
This is me below posing for a picture in front of some graffiti. I, more than my husband, was completely in love with the art on the streets. It’s another reason why I also loved Austin, Texas which has a proud tradition of street art.
Lisbon also reminded me of San Francisco because of all the hills. Everywhere was a hill and up each hill it felt like a different neighborhood with a different specialty.
