A fantastic solo vacation to Waitsfield, Vermont in an airsteam:
Stayed in: Airbnb Airsteam: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/3302370
So my husband and I had just gotten married and what better way to celebrate a life together with someone than celebrating yourself! So I booked a weeklong trip to Waitsfield, VT for some relaxation in an unusual setting: An airstream on the front lawn of a house owned by a very nice family.
I had two objectives: Eat Ben & Jerry’s Ice cream and drink beer. Of which I did plenty. I also found a place to do a solo hike and had a wonderful experience dinning solo at a the Elusive Moose Pub & Eatery where I drank wine and ate cinnamon duck. Here’s a taste of my adventure:
Ben & Jerry’s. I get it — it’s amazing. Just do the tour and feel like a kid again. It’s about $20 dollars and you get free ice cream at the end. Often ice cream that’s new and “being tested” and you can provide feedback. Pretty awesome. Below is a picture of my free taste of ice cream. If you want to save the $20 dollars you can always just stop at the Ben & Jerry’s food truck at the entrance and eat there.
Dinner at the The Elusive Moose Pub & Eatery located at 6163 Main St, Waitsfield, VT 05673-6264. It’s 1950’s inspired french restaurant with a taste of home style cooking, class, and comfort. Highlight recommended. The prices are moderate and it’s well worth the play on tastes. I had cinnamon duck and it was amazing.
Sterling Pond. At the time I had no idea this place existed and got lost multiple times on my way there and yet; once I made it I felt completely out of touch. I had no hiking clothes and was dressed in jeans, a tank top, and boots. Actually one women said to me:
“Forever you will be known in Vermont as the woman who conquered Sterling Pond in fashion boots and a purse.”
Basically, it’s a two mile hike up a ridiculous incline but well worth the trouble for these views:
This is what it looks like as you get to the “easy” part. Yes, that water in the middle is the trail.
At the top of the trail.
A few more glimpses of the trail.
Blueberries:
Right around the corner from where I was staying in the airstream was a blueberry farm where you could pick as many blueberries as you could fit into the carton of your choice. I learned a few things:
Driving in Vermont:
If you happen to have the time just drive in Vermont. You will see all sorts of beautiful and quirky things. Here’s some of what I saw.
A bike in a tree. I have no idea how it got here, but as I drove I saw it; stopped; got out my car; and took a picture.
This is spring in Vermont where either an abandoned or not currently in operation ski lift lay. I saw it from the road and thought “How eerie!” and I left my car and spent 20 minutes taking pictures of it before the rain began again.
There are just fields and fields of flowers. You can’t help but find them everywhere and get a bit lost in them as well. I absolutely adored Vermont.
If you get thirsty on the way you can also stop by Speeder & Earl’s a locally brewed coffee shop in Vermont for a refresher.
